Laser Runners

Astronauts on a space station are set against each other in a course simulating different environments of the vast Universe.

Beat the course as fast as you can while also eliminating all targets across the different environments. Can you Set the high score and become a Laser Runner?

Mocap 3D Animation

Creating the rig and skeleton was my first task. Making sure proportions were right, every bend and twist carefully painted with skin weights so it was nice and polished.

Once I tweaked the raw Animations from the Motion Capture software to Maya, I merged them in the Unity Project and soon after into the game.

I had a wonderful experience throughout the process of Animating the character for Laser Runners. This game was for our Advanced Game Workshop and in the brainstorming part of the game, I really wanted the animations to wow the audience. I have always had the desire to experiment with motion capture and when I learned some new equipment was available, I jumped at the opportunity.

At many points, the learning curve for the motion capture seemed too difficult to be a viable option for our project, but with much trial and error, my teammates and I pulled through and got the animations working properly.

The approach I took to for motion capturing was I would record some raw animations in the motion capture lab, composing of Running, Idle, Walking, Falling and Jumping. Then I moved those files into Maya, merged the rigged character model with the animation skeleton and did tweaks to the character to refine the final animation.

Thank you to Fitchburg State University and Professor Jon Amakawa for providing the Motion Capture Technology and teaching myself and the team how to use it.

Thank you to Berklee College of Music for composing the Music and Sound effects for the Game
