Woman's Will

The child of a Native American Mother who has passed away must find the remaining items their mother left for them in their will.

Level Design

This is the original papermap I created for the game.

My plan was to have the level replicate a historically accurate native american house in the mid 1700s in Aquinnah Martha's Vineyard.

Once my team agreed on the paper map, I had started building the level, combining elements from both the paper map and the house it was based on to enhance the immersion and introduce environmental story telling.

In "Woman’s Will," players are not just collecting items; they are piecing together the story of a woman who lived with conviction, blending her Christian faith with her Native American heritage. Through their eyes, players experience the profound task of honoring a woman’s last wishes, discovering the depth a Christian’s legacy, and reflecting on the meaning of heritage, faith, and family.

The game is set entirely in a 1749 residence in Aquinnah, Martha’s Vineyard. A place rich with the history and culture of the Wampanoag tribe and marked by its stunning natural landscapes and iconic cliffs. The setting not only serves as a backdrop for the narrative but also plays a crucial role in storytelling, revealing connection to the land and culture

The primary task is to collect items such as clothing, silverware, and personal mementos that are specified in the will. Finding each item provides insights into the item. Throughout the course of the game, when encountering items you will be met with a flashback that comes with it, signifying and exclaiming the importance of that item.

Thank you to Jasmin Valentin for doing the voice over for the item memory.
